newshoundsDOTus write: It wasn't enough for Bill O'Reilly to label tonight's interview portion with Obama "dubious associations" and then go out of his way to make him look suspicious to voters He also had the nerve to put Michelle Obama in his Pinheads and Patriots segment and find a sneaky way to smear her indirectly. O'Reilly showed a clip of Michelle Obama dancing really well on the Ellen Degeneres show. Of course in the past, he panned her husband for dancing on Ellen but tonight he called her a Patriot. Then he showed Elisabeth Hasslebeck at a McCain fundraiser praising Cindy McCain and then putting down Michelle Obama claiming she came on The View with a list of subjects they couldn't discuss and suggesting that Mrs Obama had something to hide. It seems like BOR was more interested in sharing Hasslebeck's accusations than scolding her for her rudeness. newshoundsDOTus write: Tonight Bill O'Reilly offered us the "dubious association" portion of his interview with Barack Obama. Rehashing the Wright, Pfleger and Ayers connection, O'Reilly had every intention of taking this opportunity to make Obama look bad. In reality, it didn't really matter what Senator Obama said tonight because BOR made sure to remind his viewers exactly what to think and then had Tammy Bruce on right after the interview to reinforce his conclusions. Although O'Reilly opened with words of respect for Obama, it was very clear that he was prepared to do whatever it takes to keep the White House Republican. On July 28th, O'Reilly told Bernie Goldberg that McCain should make an ad using the theme from Friends with shots of Wright, Pfleger and any other clown.... Tonight O'Reilly did his best to create that campaign ad on The Factor and there is little doubt that snippets will be used liberally on FOX News. When Obama claimed he never heard Jeremiah Wright utter the offensive comments, BOR acted like he didn't believe it. Obama said that he heard Wright talk about racism and O'Reilly twisted it asking twice if Wright talked about hating white people. O'Reilly wanted to promote the concept spread on FOX News that Obama is an "angry black man". Then he moved on to William Ayers and Obama was quick to remind BOR that he had "hyped" that issue pretty well. O'Reilly didn't push his denial to hard since he knew Obama was right and could probably provide an accurate count of all the segments with dates. Despite Obama's clear and reasonable analysis of his connection to Ayers, O'Reilly pushed hard. When he started in on DailyKos, Obama zinged back brilliantly noting that he can't be held responsible for everything his associations say just like O'Reilly can't be held responsible for everything said on FOX News using Hannity as an example. O'Reilly tried to dismiss it with the "commentary" excuse and Obama noted that blogs were commentary too. Finally BOR just went for a direct hit accusing Obama of only being comfortable with the far left noting that people want to identify with their president. He also had to add that his associations weren't anything like Obama's but forgot to mention that he literally ran away from the Democratic Convention because he was so uncomfortable. This guilt by association thing is a slippery slope especially now that Palin is added to the mix. McCain, of course, has James Hagee, Keating, his Swift Boat pals and an assorted array of tainted Republican associates like Ted Stevens who he shares with his self proclaimed "soul mate". He and Palin both have some pretty rough religious connections that O'Reilly should explore like McCain and Rod Parsley and Palin and her church in Alaska. Maybe he'll get to that late in November after he stops airing re-runs of this Obama interview. newshoundsDOTus write: Bill O'Reilly's Talking Points memo this evening 9/9/08 was dishonestly titled "FOX News versus NBC News" because all O'Reilly didd was criticize and bash his nemiesis (still without mentioning Keith Olbermann by name!) while leaving out all the parallels at FOX News and News Corp. Allow me. O'Reilly's criticism was prompted by MSNBC's decision to give the anchor chair to David Gregory for election special coverage - debates and election night at this point - relegating Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann to commentary. This move came after some unprofessional bickering by the two men during the conventions. O'Reilly ticked off tired old talking points (drip, drip, drip) about the network, but didn't bring FOX News into it at all as the stated subject would have you think. For example, he stated that "everybody in the world knows they (NBC) are biased," but failed to admit that "everybody knows" FOX is biased. As another example, he accused NBC heads Jeff Zucker and Steve Capus of being "committed leftists" and said NBC News is clearly in the tank for the Democratic Party while failing to note that FOX News head Roger Ailes is a committed Republican operative given free reign over the faux news channel by Rupert Murdoch. O'Reilly says Zucker and Capus have "created a culture inside NBC News that is decidely left wing;" we can see by the personnel choices and storylines pursued that FOX News has a culture of right-wingerism. One stark contrast that O'Reilly never fails to highlight is the ratings disparity - FOX has the highest ratings, while MSNBC is pretty consistently lowest (among the "big three" cable news outlets. He always fail to mention, though, that viewers have a variety of choices for their news; if they want the right-wing propaganda on a platter, they have to go to FOX. O'Reilly's climax (I know, I know - don't go there) is calling MSNBC a dishonest enterprise, accusing them of "openly campaigning for a candidate." It appears to me that MSNBC has seen the error of putting analysts/commentators in the anchor chair and have adjusted accordingly. Now it is up to FOX to replace Brit Hume as their election anchor (his conservatism is plainly visible when he switches chairs on Sundays) with someone at FOX who is non-partisan. OK, we'll take less partisan. OK, maybe they could hire someone from outside for those nights. Note too that at the beginning of the segment, O'Reilly cherry-picks an AP report, calls the author and the AP names, but then lauds the lines that he agrees with. D'ya know that Dave Mason song, "It's like you never left"? I haven't been watching O'Reilly for a few months and it's amazing to come back and find it's the exact same old crap. http://www.newshounds.us/2008/09/02/fox_news_overstates_number_of_violent_protesters_at_republican_convention.php newshounds write: Sean Hannity falsely announced on last night's (9/1/08) Hannity & Colmes that "thousands of violent anti-war protesters descended on the site of the Republican National Convention earlier today assaulting police officers, breaking windows and throwing bottles at convention goers." But moments later, even Newt Gingrich noted that the number was much lower and that the vast majority of the protesters were not violent. What was never discussed, unfortunately, was the appropriateness of the reactions of the police. Also not discussed was the wrongful arrest of journalist Amy Goodman and two of her producers who were there covering the protests. With video. After Hannity made that announcement, which was a FOX News alert, Gingrich (part of an all Republican line up of guests), noted, "I think there are two different groups out here, in all fairness... There are probably 7,000, 7500 people who are anti-war protesters -- peaceful, you know, walking around -- no mask, no problem. There's about 200 people who are nuts, who call themselves anarchists, who put masks on." In fact, there have been complaints about police crackdowns on protesters before the convention began. It led St. Paul City Council Member Dave Thune to speak out against the pre-emptive strikes. "This is all about free speech," Thune said. "It's what my father fought in the war for." Regardless of what you think of the protesters, it's hard to justify the arrest of prominent alternative journalist Amy Goodman or her two producers. An update from the Democracy Now website says that all three have been released but with charges pending against them. The two producers face felony charges. YouTube video of Goodman's arrest shows the police manhandling her without justification.
